veterans day celebration

On November 11, our nation will honor our veterans with celebrations across the country. At Prairie Meadows, the Saluting Our Veterans celebration will be an event you will not want to miss. Music, remarks from military personnel, free lunch service for all attendees, military equipment displays, and more are slated for this event.

Festivities begin at 10:30am for the Saluting Our Veterans celebration ceremony at The Meadows Events Center at Prairie Meadows. Our national anthem will be performed by local high school, Southeast Polk’s Chamber Ensemble Choir with the formal program getting underway at 11:11am. Retired Marine Corps Major Sean Quinlan will be the keynote speaker along with State Representative Brad Lohse and President/CEO of Prairie Meadows and fellow veteran Gary Palmer.

On display in front of the building will include Blackhawk helicopters courtesy of the Army National Guard. Plus, guests will be able to view a USS Iowa submarine display. One of the most spectacular demonstrations of the day will be the scheduled flyover of KC-135 and F-16 aircraft. The flyover is weather dependent so be sure to check prairiemeadows.com for details on the day of the event.

Live music performances will also be a part of the Veterans Day celebration. Jake McVey, country and southern rock musician, will play from noon – 2pm at The Meadows Events Center while guests enjoy their lunch. Classic rock band, Get Off My Lawn, will be playing hits from the 60s and 70s in the Finish Line Show Lounge from 1pm – 4pm. Guests must be 21 or older to attend show in the Finish Line Show Lounge.

Prairie Meadows will also be conducting a fundraiser for the American Legion of Central Iowa. The Legion is a unique veteran’s organization specializing in providing assistance to veterans who have fallen through the cracks and are no longer receiving support from other groups. The Legion’s funds are used for providing aid to veterans for medical bills, food, rent, and other necessary day-to-day expenses. Click here to make a donation.
