2025 LIVE HORSE RACING AT PRAIRIE MEADOWS
Guests of all ages are welcome to enjoy the thrill of live horse racing at Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa. See exciting Thoroughbred-only events before the schedule will shift to a high-energy mixed meet that showcases both Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. Spectators can watch the action up close from trackside or take in sweeping views from Level 4 inside the grandstand. Just minutes from Des Moines, Prairie Meadows is central Iowa’s top spot for horse racing, offering memorable experiences and free, family-friendly entertainment throughout the season. Live racing takes place four days a week:
- Fridays & Saturdays – Post time at 6PM
- Sundays & Mondays – Post time at 4PM

AJ’S STEAKHOUSE – A DINING EXPERIENCE THAT IS UNFORGETTABLE

CAFÉ AT THE MEADOWS – JULY DINNER SPECIAL
Enjoy the Seafood Boil special for $35, available every Friday and Saturday night in July at Café at the Meadows. This delicious summertime meal includes snow crab, shrimp, clams, mussels, crawfish, corn on the cob, sausage, and red bliss potatoes, served with fries, coleslaw, and cornbread. It’s a popular July feature that seafood fans won’t want to miss. Be sure to also take advantage of their weekly $13 lunch specials, available Monday through Friday.
The Café at the Meadows is open Sunday – Tuesday, 7am – 8pm, Wednesday and Thursday, 7am – 2pm, and Friday and Saturday, 7am – 9pm.
